About the event

The first Welcome to India event was held in November 2017. Since then, we’ve had the great privilege of welcoming such remarkable artists as :

Sitar pandit Krishna Mohan Bhatt, a disciple of Ravi Shankar whose virtuosity and originality have earned him worldwide fame. Sarod-player Sougata Roy Chowdhury, one of the most talented young classical Hindustani musicians of his generation. Imran Khan, musician and composer, the 9th generation of the lineage of the Sikar Gharana — one of the greatest and most respected musical families of Rajasthan. Nicolas Delaigue, concert performer, trained by great masters of the sitar and a European reference in the teaching of classical Hindustani music. Nihar Mehta, hailing from one of the most prominent families of philosophers and musicians of Ahmedabad and remarkable international tabla player. Jessie Veeratherapillay, dancer and choreographer of Bharata Natyam, the sacred temple dance. The photographer and author Olivier Remualdo exhibited powerful portraits of Sadhus as part of an event.

On Saturday, April 1st, 2023, Welcome to India will be welcoming Saraswati Korbanka (storytelling), Joyeeta Sanyal (sitar) and Nihar Mehta (tabla).

PROGRAM

✨ 18:00 - Storytelling by Saraswati

"Mirabai, Lover and Rebel" — the legend of the princess-poet of Rajasthan, narrated by Saraswati                  Locked up in a palace for refusing to submit, Mirabai escapes and continues on her way, in search of her love. She is very beautiful, Mirabai, the Indian poet. Emperor Akbar is not insensitive to her beauty — but Mirabai, the rebellious princess, a symbol, disappears... Perhaps she has gone to join her god. Free, so goes Mirabai.

Saraswati Korbanka was raised in Swami Muktananda's ashram in Ganeshpuri, India. Imbued with the teachings of this great master, she shares this knowledge with those who seek joy and inner peace.

✨ 19:00 - Hindustani classical music concert with Joyeeta Sanyal (sitar) and Nihar Mehta (tabla)

Born in Calcutta, Joyeeta Sanyal was introduced to the sitar at an early age and has developed a technique that makes her playing as creative as it is captivating. She emanates from her instrument a magical fusion of bewitchingly deep sounds.

Nihar Mehta comes from one of the foremost and respected families of philosophers and musicians of Ahmedabad. Founder and President of Association Saptak-India, he is now based in the French Riviera and has performed in many prestigious venues and festivals in Europe.
